Overview

A desktop companion for Claude Code that lives in the menu bar and turns local session logs into live cost, token and cache analytics. It runs on macOS, Windows and Linux, needs no account, and keeps every bit of session analysis on your own machine. It was featured on Product Hunt, and its 20+ releases have 700+ downloads on GitHub.

The problem

Claude Code writes each session to JSONL files on disk but offers no view across them. Which sessions blew the budget, which model eats most of the spend, whether prompt caching actually saves money — answering any of that meant digging through log files by hand.

The approach

ClaudeWatch watches the Claude Code folder for file-system events and streams changed session files line by line, so large transcripts never load fully into memory and updates land as fast as the OS reports them. Costs are computed at parse time, so the analytics view renders without a separate aggregation pass. It ships as an Electron app: a frameless tray popover for quick stats and a full dashboard window on demand.

Highlights

  1. Menu-bar popover with live cost, token and session stats
  2. Session explorer with full-transcript search and a detail panel
  3. Analytics across cost, cache, models, latency and effort
  4. Pricing engine with Anthropic list rates and per-model overrides
  5. Local-first: no accounts, no cloud sync, opt-in crash reports only
